The Citroen C1 second-generation hatchback has been known since 2014, but it only recently appeared in Ukraine. Its predecessor was quite popular in our area, and we decided to find out if the new Citroen C1 can surprise.
In terms of size, the newcomer is comparable to the first-generation model – 3466 mm in length, 1615 mm in width, and 1460 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2340 mm. As before, the smallest Citroen shares the platform with the Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo, but now it looks much more different from its siblings.
The design of the Citroen C1 has become more expressive and unique, so this small car definitely attracts attention in the traffic flow.
Its original front part with “two-level” optics may or may not be to your taste, but it certainly leaves no one indifferent. A distinctive feature of the model remains the fully glass tailgate. The tested car also stands out with a two-tone paint job, 15-inch black alloy wheels, and LED daytime running lights.
The interior trim features black lacquered overlays and inserts matching the body color in the doors. The instrument cluster is quite compact, with a huge speedometer with an onboard computer screen inside taking center stage.
To the left is a thin strip of a digital tachometer. Interestingly, the instrument panel adjusts in height along with the steering column. In the top version of the Citroen C1 2018, there is a 7.0-inch touchscreen. The multimedia menu is very simple and does not require long adaptation. The triangular climate control unit with a small screen inside looks stylish.
The front seats with integrated headrests are comfortable and surprisingly hold the back well. They have enough adjustments, but the steering column only changes tilt and the range of adjustments is not the largest. Thin roof pillars provide excellent visibility, helped by large side mirrors. However, the cabin mirror is very small.
The new Citroen C1 remains a four-seater, as evidenced by a pair of headrests in the second row.
Tall people (over 180 cm) will feel a lack of headroom. By the way, the rear windows do not roll down but open to the side like a window vent. The trunk volume is 180 liters in the normal state and 780 liters with the rear seats folded in a 50:50 ratio. There is a spare doughnut tire under the floor. Only the threshold is quite high.
The top Citroen C1 is quite well-equipped – keyless access system, climate control, rearview camera, light sensor, audio system with steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, heated seats. It even has preventive braking and lane monitoring systems.
The Citroen C1 is offered only with one engine in Ukraine – a 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 68 hp. Its maximum torque is small – 95 Nm and is reached at high 4300 rpm. So the engine has to be constantly revved, and as the speed increases, it becomes quite loud.
With our fuel and turbocharged engines, turbo repair can be considered “consumable,” so it’s better not to rev the engine too much.
Of course, you shouldn’t expect hurricane dynamics from the Citroen C1, and overtaking on the highway needs to be planned in advance. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 15.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is 157 km/h. However, the undeniable advantage of the hatchback is its economy. Even when driving in peak hour traffic jams, fuel consumption did not exceed 6.7 l/100 km.
The five-door version is available exclusively with a robotized gearbox (the three-door version comes with a manual). In automatic mode, at low speeds, gear changes occur with noticeable jerks and vibrations, making you feel like a novice driver in a car with a manual gearbox.
In manual mode, the robot behaves much better, and gear changes occur much more smoothly. Moreover, the gear shift indicator suggests when to shift “up,” and the gearbox downshifts automatically. There are also paddle shifters.
The compact Citroen C1 maneuvers excellently in city traffic. Its steering is very light, and the turning diameter is only 9.6 m. Unlike many peers, the hatchback’s suspension is quite soft, so numerous potholes on Kyiv roads are absorbed smoothly and not loudly. Overall, the sound insulation for an A-class model is not bad, and up to 110-120 km/h inside is quite quiet. car pawnshops – Kit-lombard.in.ua
