PROS ›› Luxurious cabin with high-quality materials, spacious, smooth ride
CONS ›› Controversial looks, no rear window, touchscreen-based controls
The Polestar 2, released in 2019, showed that you don’t necessarily need to buy a Tesla to get a quality electric vehicle. However, the EV market has changed significantly since then, and now the Polestar brand is introducing a new model—the Polestar 4. This is a larger and more refined car that could be a game-changer for the Swedish-Chinese manufacturer.
After a week of testing the Long Range Single Motor version, it became clear that the Polestar 4 significantly surpasses its predecessor. It combines cutting-edge technology with European-level comfort, raising the bar for electric vehicles in its segment.
Technical Specifications
Interior and Comfort
The Polestar 4’s interior impresses with its material quality and thoughtful design. The use of soft faux leather, premium vegan materials, and a minimalist approach to controls makes it more luxurious than competitors, including Tesla and the BMW i4. However, practicality suffers due to the lack of physical buttons—almost all settings are managed via a 15.4-inch touchscreen.
One of the most discussed features is the absence of a rear window—instead, a digital mirror is used. While it’s something you can get used to, some drivers wearing glasses may experience discomfort. On the other hand, the rear space is impressively roomy, and the large trunk (526 liters) makes the car practical for daily use.
Driving Experience
The Polestar 4 offers a smooth and quiet ride, making it ideal for long trips. The rear-wheel-drive single-motor version has enough power for city and highway driving, though its 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.1 seconds isn’t impressive compared to rivals. Still, for most buyers, this is sufficient. Handling is well-tuned, though the regenerative braking system could be more user-friendly.
Energy efficiency stands at around 17.1 kWh per 100 km, which isn’t record-breaking, but thanks to the large 100 kWh battery, the range reaches 620 km. Fast charging from 10% to 80% takes about 30 minutes.
The Polestar 4 is one of the most balanced electric vehicles on the market. It combines high comfort, a premium interior, and decent performance. While some decisions, like the lack of physical buttons, raise questions, overall, it’s a serious competitor to the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6. For those looking for a premium yet not overly expensive electric car, the Polestar 4 is an option worth considering.
