This Chinese SUV is bigger than Tesla Model X and as efficient as Model 3

New Li Auto i8 electric car: a hybrid of SUV and minivan

Chinese manufacturer Li Auto has introduced the new i8 electric car, which is already available for order. This is not a concept but a production model with a starting price of 321,800 yuan (approximately $45,000). The car’s design combines elements of an SUV and a minivan, with an unusual LED panel under the windshield instead of the traditional headlight placement.

According to the developers, the shape of the i8 was inspired by yachts, although this is not obvious at first glance. The model offers two battery options: a base 90.1 kWh with a range of up to 670 km and a more powerful 97.8 kWh version that provides 720 km. Fast charging allows for 500 km to be replenished in 10 minutes. Its aerodynamics (0.218 Cd) are better than those of the Tesla Model Y.

Technology and Interior

Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 4.5 seconds, and energy consumption is only 14.6–14.8 kWh per 100 km. The interior is equipped with two 15.7-inch screens, a wireless charging system, and an air suspension with four modes. The standard configuration includes the Li AD Pro system, while the more expensive versions feature Li AD Max with a lidar.

The electric car is offered exclusively in a six-seat configuration (2+2+2). The lack of a traditional instrument panel is compensated by a compact display on the steering wheel. Despite its size, the i8 demonstrates impressive efficiency, making it a serious competitor for Western manufacturers.
