Ferrari Secretly Researches the World’s Fastest Electric Sedan Behind Closed Doors

Ferrari Studies Chinese Xiaomi SU7 Ahead of Its Own Electric Car Launch

Ferrari is preparing to debut its first electric vehicle in the spring of 2026. As this is a new experience for the Italian brand, it appears to be studying the Chinese Xiaomi SU7, which has already impressed the world with its performance.

A yellow Xiaomi SU7 Ultra sedan was spotted near Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello. Its bright color and distinctive silver stripes make it hard to miss.

A New Era for Ferrari

Just five years ago, the idea that Ferrari would be interested in a Chinese car seemed laughable. However, much has changed during this time. The Xiaomi SU7 set a record on the Nürburgring for production electric vehicles with a time of 7:04.957, beating the Porsche Taycan by almost three seconds.

Under the hood of the SU7 Ultra is a triple electric motor setup with 1526 hp, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.98 seconds and reach a top speed of 359 km/h.

Ferrari has already proven its mastery in creating cars with excellent handling, so they are likely interested specifically in the electric platform and thermal management system during prolonged dynamic driving. Interestingly, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun is also a Ferrari fan – last year he was seen behind the wheel of a red Purosangue.

According to sources, Ferrari’s first electric car will be released in a limited series to introduce clients to the brand’s new direction. A second electric model, which will feature a crossover design, is expected to be more mass-market. However, Ferrari has already delayed the launch of its first electric car due to low demand in the premium EV segment.

This situation shows how quickly the automotive market is changing. Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi are already demonstrating technologies that attract the attention of even legendary brands like Ferrari. At the same time, even for Ferrari, the transition to electric vehicles is proving challenging, especially against the backdrop of fluctuating demand in the premium segment.
