by New Budget Tesla Model Y: What the Version Has Lost
The first images of the new budget version of the Tesla Model Y have appeared. The manufacturer has abandoned a number of features to reduce the price of the electric crossover. Among the main changes are the absence of a panoramic roof, a front light strip, and a touchscreen for rear passengers.
The car prototype was spotted in China, where Tesla faces stiff competition from local manufacturers. A comparison with the regular Model Y shows that the budget version lacks some elements of the updated design presented in the top trim levels.
What Was Removed from the Model
Externally, the car has lost the front LED strip and the continuous line of rear lights. Inside, rear passengers will receive less light due to a standard roof instead of a panoramic one. The 8-inch touchscreen in the rear is also absent, and the center console has a simplified design.
Chinese publication Autohome reports that the ADAS system will remain unchanged, and the budget Model Y will likely receive Autopilot, just like other versions.
Price and Specifications
Currently, the base Model Y in the US costs $37,490 thanks to a tax incentive, but the price will increase after its cancellation. Tesla hopes that the simplified version will allow them to keep the price at around $36,000. Technical details such as power and range have not been disclosed yet.
Despite the reduction in the number of options, the 15.4-inch touchscreen and core functions will remain intact. The release of the budget Model Y is expected by the end of 2025, and it could become a key product for the brand in the tight market of affordable electric vehicles.
