China Receives an Updated Model 3+, But It Differs from Expectations

New Tesla Model 3+ Version for the Chinese Market

Tesla is preparing to release a special version of the Model 3 for China, which has been named the Model 3+. This model will feature an extended range thanks to a combination of rear-wheel drive and a more powerful NMC battery from LG. According to local sources, the car will be able to travel up to 800 km on a single charge according to the CLTC standard.

Unlike the base version with an LFP battery, the Model 3+ will receive a higher-capacity battery. Although the exact technical specifications have not yet been disclosed, the model is expected to be similar to the American Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive with a 79.7 kWh battery. The launch of the new product is scheduled for the end of 2023.

Competitive Market of China

The Chinese electric vehicle market is one of the most competitive in the world. Unlike the USA, where Tesla remains the undisputed leader, in China the company faces stiff competition from local manufacturers. This is precisely why the brand is actively adapting its model lineup to the needs of local buyers.

It is worth noting that the extended range is one of the key factors for Chinese consumers. This makes the Model 3+ a potentially attractive offer, especially against the backdrop of the growing popularity of local electric vehicle brands, which are constantly improving their technologies.
