SAIC-GM Unveils Gen-Z Explorer Concept
At the celebration of the 28th anniversary of their partnership, SAIC-GM unveiled the Gen-Z Explorer concept electric vehicle. This is a compact hatchback that could become an important product for the Chinese market. According to reports, the car is capable of driving up to 1200 km on a single charge and is equipped with a powerful 800-volt system.
The concept’s design was developed by the PATAC Design studio. It features a minimalist approach but has unique elements such as LED panels at the front and rear. The production version will likely be released under the Buick Electra brand.
Technical Features
The Gen-Z Explorer features all-wheel drive with two electric motors producing a combined output of 644 hp. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3.8 seconds. The high-energy-density battery (350 Wh/kg) allows for fast charging: 600 km of range in 10 minutes.
Its clean, restrained design could help attract a wider range of buyers
Despite the impressive specifications, the exact timeline for the release of the production version is not yet known. The car is expected to be available exclusively in China through the SAIC-GM dealer network.
This concept demonstrates how Chinese manufacturers are focusing on efficiency and technology, not just design. With such performance, the Gen-Z Explorer could become a serious player in the affordable electric vehicle segment, especially considering its fast charging and long range.
