Xiaomi Responds to Accusations of Copying Ferrari and Porsche Design

The internet is abuzz with jokes and comparisons of new Xiaomi cars to European supercars. In particular, the SU7 sedan is often compared to the Porsche Taycan, and the YU7 crossover to the Ferrari Purosangue. On Chinese social media, these models have even received amusing nicknames: “Mi-shijie” (a play on words in Chinese combining the brand name Xiaomi and Porsche) and “Fala-mi” (a combination of Ferrari and Xiaomi).

Tianyuan Li, General Manager of Industrial Design at Xiaomi Auto, commented on these accusations. According to him, the company’s main goal is to create designs that evoke emotions in users and form a connection with the product, rather than trying to avoid any external similarities with other brands.

He also emphasized that talks of “copying” have in no way affected Xiaomi’s car sales. The company’s automotive division adheres to three main principles: design according to scientific knowledge, the laws of nature, and intuition.

It is worth recalling that the exterior of the Xiaomi YU7 does indeed feature traits similar to the Ferrari Purosangue, but the company assures: their main focus is their own style and recognizability among the brand’s fans.
