The New Toyota GR Factory – Perhaps the Coolest Car Manufacturing Place

The Updated Toyota GR Factory – A Place Where People Work with Passion

The Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) factory in Motomachi, Japan, is not like a typical production facility. After a large-scale modernization in 2025, it resembles a Formula One team more than an assembly line. Models such as the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, and GRMN Yaris are assembled here, with each car receiving special attention.

Factory employees wear personalized uniforms with their names, emphasizing their belonging to the team. Besides work areas, there are rest areas with chairs, a TV, and a kitchen, as well as a professional racing simulator for those who want to feel adrenaline during their break.

How Cars Are Assembled at the GR Factory

Unlike traditional factories where automation prevails, at the GR Factory, most operations are performed by people. This allows for higher precision and flexibility in production. Car bodies are lowered onto already prepared chassis to avoid deformations, and additional measurements of brake discs and springs are taken before final assembly.

Every finished car undergoes thorough testing before being sent to customers. Toyota even organizes tours for owners of the GR Yaris and GR Corolla so they can see the production process. Due to growing demand, the company plans to open another similar factory in 2026.

Other sports models, such as the GR86 and GR Supra, are produced at other enterprises – by Subaru and Magna Steyr, respectively. However, it is the GR Factory that remains the heart of the Gazoo Racing brand, where every car is created with racing experience in mind.
