France Obliged Tesla to Stop Misleading Buyers About Autopilot Capabilities

France Obliges Tesla to Stop Misleading Advertising

The French regulator for competition and consumer protection has found violations in Tesla’s activities. The company has been ordered to cease misleading marketing practices related to claims about fully autonomous vehicle control. If Tesla fails to comply, it faces a potential fine of over $58 thousand per day.

In addition to advertising issues, the regulator found a number of other violations:

The company has been given four months to rectify the violations. Particular attention is paid to the issue of autonomous control, as currently no Tesla production vehicle is fully self-driving, despite marketing claims.

This is not the first time regulators in various countries have paid attention to Tesla’s marketing practices. The issue of safety and information transparency is becoming increasingly relevant as autonomous driving technologies develop. The French case may set a precedent for similar considerations in other European countries.
