The Most Luxurious Toyota SUV Can Now Isolate from the Outside World in Seconds

Toyota Century SUV Gains New Feature

The Toyota Century SUV is already considered one of the most prestigious cars on the market, and now it has become even more exclusive. The main new feature for the 2025 model year is the rear window darkening system, which has become standard. While this is not a revolutionary change, for such a luxurious car, every detail matters.

For the 2026 model year, the update concerns the three-stage darkening function for the rear doors and side windows. Toyota engineers achieved this using a special film installed between two layers of glass. However, the panoramic sunroof did not receive this feature—it retains a conventional electric sunshade.

Passenger Comfort

The main purpose of the window darkening is to provide additional privacy for passengers in the rear seats. In full darkening mode, the interior resembles a traditional Japanese interior. The Century SUV is designed specifically for the comfort of those sitting in the rear: it features electric running boards, wide doors, ambient lighting, tables, antibacterial surfaces, and even a shoehorn holder.

The rear seats can transform into an almost horizontal position, which is perfect for relaxation. A separate control panel and an entertainment system with individual screens enhance the experience. An 18-speaker audio system guarantees high-quality sound.

Technical Features

The Century SUV remains one of the largest premium crossovers—its length is 5,205 mm. Under the hood is a hybrid system based on a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 406 horsepower. The electric motor allows for travel up to 69 km without using gasoline.

The new window darkening feature has increased the car’s price by ¥2 million, but this is unlikely to be a problem for potential buyers. The model’s availability remains limited—it is offered only at select dealers and primarily to owners of Century sedans.

Window darkening technology is not unique—similar solutions are already used by Maybach, Mercedes, and McLaren. However, for the Japanese market, the Century SUV remains a symbol of status and comfort. Its interior and technologies continue to impress even against European competitors.
