Smart Kit Transforms Stellantis Van into Mobile Camper

Japanese Version of Citroën Berlingo Black Edition Receives Camper Conversion Kit

Japan is known for its vehicles, often equipped with convenient features for camping. Inspired by this, Stellantis decided to offer a similar approach for compact vans by introducing the Citroën Berlingo Black Edition with a special kit that converts the interior into a double bed.

The Berlingo has been in production since 1996 but only reached the Japanese market in 2020. Over five years, only 10,000 units were sold there. To increase the model’s popularity, Citroën regularly releases special editions, and the Black Edition is one of them.

Features of the Trim

This is already the second Black Edition for the Berlingo. It received an exclusive Noir Perlanera color and 16-inch wheels. But the main highlight is the optional “Agre Storage & Bed Kit” camper kit, which includes:

The first buyers will also receive two airtight storage boxes with a capacity of 53 liters.

Technical Specifications

In Japan, the Berlingo is offered only with a 1.5-liter BlueHDi diesel engine producing 128 hp and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Black Edition is equipped with a Grip Control system for improved traction.

The model is available in two length variants: standard (5 seats) and Max (7 seats or a larger trunk).

Price and Offers

The Berlingo Black Edition is already on sale in Japan. The price starts from ¥4,410,000 ($29,800). Until the end of June, buyers can get the camper kit at a 50% discount or two free storage boxes.

This version could become an interesting option for those looking for a compact van with the ability to quickly convert into a mini-camper. It is especially relevant for Japan, where auto travel with overnight stays in nature is popular. However, the limited engine choice may deter some buyers looking for more powerful or economical options.
