by The company Abt Sportsline, well-known for its passion for modifying Audi, has presented an incredible novelty — the Ur-Quattro, a replica of the iconic 1980 Audi Quattro. Yes, exactly the one that once revolutionized the idea of production cars with all-wheel drive and won the hearts of rally fans.
But don’t think this is just another restomod. Abt decided to create not just a copy, but a true work of modern art on wheels. All 30 examples of the Ur-Quattro have already been sold out even before the premiere, and each one is assembled by hand.
Externally, the new Ur-Quattro captures the spirit of the 80s, but without any old metal. All body panels are made from lightweight composite materials, including carbon fiber, and the radiator grille and headlights are borrowed from the rare Sport Quattro, of which only 214 units were produced in its time. Hidden inside the cabin is a steel safety cage — it’s not visible as it is neatly covered by the upholstery.
Under the hood is a modern 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo engine with 530 horsepower. That’s almost three times more than the original Audi Quattro, which turns 45 this year. Abt has not yet disclosed technical details about the chassis, nor has it shown the interior. The cost of each car can only be guessed at, but given the scale of the work, it’s definitely several hundred thousand euros.
The original Audi Quattro was produced from 1980 to 1991, and a total of 11,452 examples were made. It was one of the first production passenger cars with permanent all-wheel drive and a center differential, which laid the foundation for the brand’s future rally success.
The Abt Ur-Quattro is not just a return of a legend, but a new take on a classic that combines history with the most modern technologies. You definitely won’t see cars like this every day, but each example is a symbol of style, power, and engineering mastery.
