Forester Wilderness Model Update
Subaru has introduced the updated Forester Wilderness version for the 2026 model year, with a starting price of $38,385. This is $2,100 more expensive than the previous model, but customers will get a significantly improved crossover. The model will go on sale in the USA in the autumn of this year.
Exterior and Capabilities
The Forester Wilderness features a rugged design and improved off-road capability. It is equipped with unique front lighting, an updated radiator grille, and underbody protection. Additionally, special fog lights and a matte hood decal to reduce glare during off-road driving are installed.
Increased Off-Road Capability
The crossover has received a suspension adapted for off-road driving, providing a ground clearance of 9.3 inches (236 mm) — 0.6 inches (15 mm) more than the standard model. The 17-inch wheels are finished in matte black and are fitted with all-terrain tires.
Thanks to the updates, the Forester Wilderness has improved approach, departure, and breakover angles: 23.5, 25.5, and 21 degrees respectively.
Other features include copper-anodized accents, a rear bumper with the “SUBARU” logo, and ladder-style roof rails.
Interior and Equipment
The interior has remained virtually unchanged but now offers gray StarTex upholstery seats with copper contrast stitching. Additionally, there are unique trim elements, copper accents, and all-weather floor mats.
The base equipment includes a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and wireless smartphone charging. An 11.6-inch infotainment system, a six-speaker audio system, and a sunroof are also provided.
For an additional $2,200, an option package with GPS navigation, a premium 11-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a power liftgate is available.
General Updates for the Entire Forester Lineup
Besides the Wilderness version, all 2026 Forester models have received an updated center console with new cup holders that can accommodate 32-ounce bottles. A larger armrest, a compact gear selector lever, and an additional storage compartment for small items have also appeared.
Subaru managed to keep the base price at $29,995, which is rare in current conditions, although the destination fee increased by $30 and now amounts to $1,450.
Engine and Transmission
All models are equipped with a 2.5-liter horizontally opposed (boxer) four-cylinder engine producing 180 hp (134 kW) and 178 lb-ft (241 Nm) of torque. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and the standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system.
