Rumors about BMW engines in the next Mercedes received a harsh reality check

Rumors about Mercedes and BMW collaboration debunked

The German automaker Mercedes-Benz has denied information about a possible deal with BMW regarding the joint use of engines. Earlier reports had appeared that the companies were discussing a partnership to reduce costs in connection with the gradual transition to electric vehicles.

Mercedes’ own developments

Mercedes Chief Technology Officer Markus Schäfer stated that the brand has its own modular engine family FAME, which already meets future environmental standards of the EU, China, and the USA. This means the company does not plan to use BMW engines for its future models.

“We have developed our own new family of modular engines that covers all displacements and is already ready to meet EU7, China 7, and US standards,” Schäfer noted.
