Unexpected Depreciation
Few expect a new Jeep Wrangler to retain its value after leaving the dealership. Depreciation is inevitable, but the first owner of this 2024 Wrangler Sport S 4xe probably did not expect to lose almost half of the purchase price after only 4,300 miles on the odometer.
When this SUV was ordered, its price was $60,840. This is more than $10,000 above the base price due to additional options, such as the $3,995 power-top and the $1,595 technology group, which includes an Alpine audio system, an external device power supply, and active noise cancellation. A convenience group for $1,995 was also added, including heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a remote start system.
Sharp Drop in Value
Earlier this week, this SUV was listed on the Cars & Bids auction and sold for only $32,750. This is $28,090 less than the original price, which is an impressive depreciation for a vehicle of this age and mileage.
Undoubtedly, the value of this Jeep was affected by a minor accident noted in the Carfax report. The report states that such damage is usually only cosmetic and consists of dents and scratches on the body. Fortunately for the new owner, the damage was repaired, and no visible traces of the accident remain.
Model Popularity and Cost
Despite the popularity of the Wrangler 4xe, which is one of the best-selling plug-in hybrids in the US, it is hard to call it cheap. With a starting price of $50,000, it costs approximately $18,000 more than the most affordable Wrangler Sport version with an internal combustion engine. Furthermore, it is almost $10,000 more expensive than a similar Sport S version with the standard 3.6-liter V6 engine.
Was this buyer lucky, getting a significant discount from the initial cost, or will the car’s value continue to drop over time? This question remains open for discussion.
