Polestar 3 2026 Receives Serious Updates, and Current Owners Get Free Upgrade

Updated 2026 Polestar 3 Introduced

Polestar has officially introduced the updated version of the Polestar 3 electric crossover for the 2026 model year. The updates include a number of key technical improvements, among which are new batteries, increased power, and a transition to an 800-volt electrical architecture. The most powerful Performance version now develops 671 hp, which is 154 hp more than the previous model.

Changes in Electrical Architecture

The main change was the transition from a 400-volt to an 800-volt electrical system. This enabled the implementation of fast charging with a capacity of up to 350 kW on direct current. According to the manufacturer, the battery charging time from 10% to 80% has been reduced to 22 minutes, which is 25% faster compared to the previous model.

Updated Batteries and Electric Motors

The vehicle received new battery packs with capacities of 92 and 106 kWh. The crossover’s efficiency in the WLTP cycle increased by 6%. Engineers also installed a new rear electric motor of their own design, with a power of 329 hp and a torque of 480 N·m. This is 34 hp more than before, although the torque has slightly decreased.

Improved Dynamic Characteristics

The dual-motor version now develops 536 hp and 740 N·m of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The Performance version, with figures of 671 hp and 870 N·m, covers the same distance in 3.8 seconds. The top speed is limited to 143 mph.

New Control System and Hardware Update

The vehicle was equipped with a new NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processor, which replaced the previous Xavier module. This increased the computing power from 30 to 254 trillion operations per second. Importantly, existing Polestar 3 owners will be able to replace the processor for free at service centers starting from the beginning of next year.

Updates in Trims and Design

The manufacturer simplified the trim names: they are now called Rear Motor, Dual Motor, and Performance. New options have also appeared, such as a Climate package with heated rear seats and steering wheel, as well as a Prime package that combines several options together. The color palette has been supplemented with the Storm shade, and larger emblems indicating the trim level have appeared on the doors.

Interior and Materials

The interior now standardly uses the eco-friendly MicroTech material in Charcoal color and decor made from recycled aluminum. The active noise cancellation system and Bowers & Wilkins audio system are now available as separate options.

The 2026 Polestar 3 will initially be available in the UK, where last year’s version was completely sold out, and will later be released in other markets. These updates make the model even more competitive in the premium electric crossover segment, especially considering the possibility of upgrading for current owners. Such steps indicate a priority for long-term customer support and adaptation to the rapid development of technologies.
