Images have appeared online of a Chinese SUV that strikingly resembles the Bentley Bentayga. The off-roader without logos has a squarer hood and roof, but a very similar radiator grille and headlights. It is likely that this model belongs to the company Dreame, which has previously copied designs from Bugatti and Rolls-Royce.
Dreame’s History of Copying
The company Dreame, which transitioned from manufacturing appliances to cars, is known for borrowing iconic Western designs. Initially, it presented renders of a luxury sedan similar to the Bugatti Chiron, and then an SUV that clearly follows the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Therefore, when a new off-roader resembling a Bentley appeared on social media, it was no surprise that many considered Dreame to be involved in its creation.
Their CEO stated that the company is developing a second luxury brand aimed at competing with Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
This opinion is supported by Chinese media and commentators, who also suspect Dreame’s involvement with this model.
Design Details and Similarity
In the images circulating on Chinese social media, an SUV is visible with a high, straight roofline, a chromed grille imitating the characteristic Bentayga design, and side windows with proportions almost identical to the Bentley. The front is slightly squarer, and the roofline is more cubic, but the absence of logos does not hide the obvious borrowing of intellectual property.
Even before the Cullinan renders appeared, it was reported that Dreame was studying Bentley and Rolls-Royce models before launching its automotive division. If this mysterious SUV indeed belongs to Dreame, it logically fits into their plans.
Company Plans and Technical Features
The company aims to enter the luxury electric vehicle market by 2027 and plans to open a manufacturing plant in Berlin, near the Tesla Gigafactory. Their Cullinan-like model will have a 100 kWh battery, four electric motors, and an option with a range-extender engine. Rear passengers will be offered aircraft-style seats with legroom of up to 1.2 meters thanks to a wheelbase of 3.2 meters.
Are the Images Real?
Some commentators on Weibo suggest that the SUV images are generated by artificial intelligence, considering the current capabilities of technology. However, most experts lean towards the photos being genuine, although there is no official confirmation from the company yet.
This case raises questions about the boundaries between inspiration and copying in the automotive industry. Some believe the designers have managed to create a model that looks better than the original, while others view it as a clear copyright infringement. Such initiatives could affect brand reputations and lead to legal consequences, especially in international markets where intellectual property protection is a priority.
