Toyota Unveils Electric Sports Coupe Lexus LFA Concept Based on GR GT

Toyota Motor has presented the new Lexus LFA Concept electric sports car — a concept that develops the idea of the track-focused Toyota GR GT, but now with a pure electric powertrain. The model received the aluminum space frame from the GR GT, however, the Lexus body is completely original.

In terms of dimensions, the Lexus is more compact: the wheelbase is identical at 2725 mm, but the length of the LFA is 4690 mm compared to 4820 mm for the GR GT. At the same time, it is expected that the electric Lexus LFA will be heavier than the 1750-kilogram Toyota GR GT, although engineers emphasize the priority of reducing mass, as well as optimizing the center of gravity, chassis rigidity, and aerodynamics.

The design of the Lexus LFA Concept is created to be more emotional and decorative than the utilitarian GR GT: complex lines, signature wave-like elements, an emphasis on expression. The interior is executed in a futuristic style — a steering wheel is installed instead of a traditional one, information displays are maximally laconic, and the cockpit is stylized as an abstract interpretation of a racing space. If the Toyota GR GT is a professional pilot’s workspace, then the Lexus LFA Concept is focused on emotions, impressions, and a gamified driving experience.

The manufacturer is keeping the technical specifications secret for now, but it is logical to assume they will be on par with the GR GT. The latter’s 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo as part of a hybrid system produces 641 hp and 850 Nm. Therefore, the production electric Lexus LFA should demonstrate performance worthy of the successor to the legendary LFA.

The electric Lexus LFA is expected to hit the market approximately simultaneously with the Toyota GR GT — in early 2027. Such a tandem could become Toyota’s key bid for leadership in the electric sports car segment.
