Stellantis Makes a Serious Bet on Personalized Cars, and This Is Just the Beginning

The Bottegafuoriserie program has united Alfa Romeo and Maserati to create exclusive, limited-series cars. Announced back in November 2025, the initiative is first showcasing its results at The Ultimate Supercar Garage exhibition in Paris.

Exclusive Quartet

The program’s debut consists of four individually crafted models: two from each brand. Alfa Romeo presented the 33 Stradale and the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa. Maserati, in turn, showcased the unique MCXtrema and the road-going version of the GT2 Stradale race car.

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is finished in a bright green color, referencing the historic Giulia GTAm model and the 33 Bertone Carabo concept car. The visual drama is enhanced by gold alloy wheels and a black interior with saddle-colored accents. Since all 33 planned units of the Stradale are already sold out, any updates within the Bottegafuoriserie program will be available only to those who ordered the car in advance.

Next to it on the stand was the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa. This version, limited to ten units worldwide, honors Alfa Romeo’s partnership with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team. In addition to special paintwork and unique wheels, the car received a special carbon fiber aerodynamic kit to increase downforce.

Maserati’s Power and Personalization

On the Maserati side, the main star is the unique MCXtrema, commissioned by a collector. This track-only beast is dressed in a matte blue-and-white “Corse” livery. The design with the owner’s lucky number (77) was proposed by Maserati Centro Stile and pays homage to the MC12 supercar. Under the track-focused body lies the same Nettuno V6 engine that powers Maserati’s most potent models, and here it delivers 740 hp and 730 Nm of torque. The MCXtrema, limited to 62 units, holds the title of the most powerful Maserati ever built.

Completing the quartet is the MC20 GT2 Stradale — a road-legal version of the Maserati GT2 race car. It is finished in the familiar Blu Infinito paint used on the 2024 demonstrator version and features a large amount of exposed carbon fiber. According to Maserati, 80 percent of MC20 buyers now choose the Fuoriserie personalization program, indicating growing demand for uniquely specified vehicles.

Brand Philosophy and Strategy

As for the name itself, Bottegafuoriserie may sound unusual, but it carries a specific meaning. “Bottega” translates to workshop or shop, while “Fuoriserie” means something built outside of standard series production. Together, they describe the Stellantis program dedicated to custom-built Alfa and Maserati cars overseen by their own designers.

Stellantis also aims to more closely link the program with motorsport, planning to transfer technologies developed on the track to production cars. In addition to new builds, Bottegafuoriserie will undertake the restoration and authentication of historic cars, facilitate the creation of archives, and support brand heritage through special museums.

By uniting the two most historic Italian marques under a shared umbrella of personalization, Stellantis is targeting the high-margin territory already occupied by competitors. This strategy has long been implemented by other manufacturers, with similar programs existing at Ferrari Special Projects, Lamborghini Ad Personam, McLaren Special Operations, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, Q by Aston Martin, Bentley Mulliner, and Bugatti Sur Mesure.

The emergence of Bottegafuoriserie clearly indicates a shift in focus within the automotive industry, where uniqueness and exclusivity are becoming the new currency. Consolidating the efforts of the two brands allows not only for cost optimization but also for creating a powerful center of competence to meet the demands of the most discerning clients. The success of such initiatives is often measured not by sales volumes, but by the growth of brand prestige and the strengthening of the emotional connection with its enthusiasts, which in the long term may prove even more valuable. Expanding the program to restoration and museum work demonstrates a deep understanding of the importance of history in shaping the future of these legendary names.
