Unexpected appearance of details
A few hours before the scheduled announcement, full-fledged photos of the new model appeared on social media. They clearly show an aggressively styled sedan and wagon (Avant), devoid of any lighting effects that were meant to conceal the design. Thus, the gradual reveal of details planned by Audi did not happen.

Design and platform
The new model is built on the Audi A5 base, but thanks to the exclusive RS sport body kit, it takes on an appearance reminiscent of a smaller version of the RS6, or perhaps something even sharper. The front features a redesigned bumper with a massive radiator grille, flanked by large air intakes. Both front and rear fenders are noticeably widened. The rear of the car has received a large diffuser, which integrates dual oval exhaust pipes and a Formula 1-style stop light.
Powertrain
Audi has confirmed that the new RS5 will receive a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The most likely combination is a bi-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine paired with electric motors. The total output of such a system will significantly exceed the 362 hp (270 kW) developed by the mild-hybrid S5 version.
