Ford Offers to Boost Your Street Truck Lobo’s Power to 720 Horsepower

Factory-Approved Power Thrills

Ford understands perfectly that no matter how high the factory power output is, there will always be enthusiasts who want more. That’s precisely why the brand has introduced a new line of certified performance upgrade accessories designed for models with the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine. These kits are installed by authorized dealers.

Co-Developed with Whipple

The core of the new offering is a supercharger kit from Ford Performance, developed in collaboration with Whipple. It is available for the Mustang GT, Dark Horse, and the F-150 pickup with the 5.0-liter V8. Most importantly, after installation, the vehicle’s full factory warranty is preserved.

Mustang with 810 Horsepower

For the sports coupe, the 3.0-liter twin-screw supercharger boosts the Coyote engine’s power to 810 hp and torque to 615 lb-ft. This brings the car to the level of the Mustang GTD, at least on paper. There is one nuance: to achieve the full 810 hp, the optional active exhaust system is required. Without it, power is limited to 800 hp.

This isn’t just a pulley swap and a tune. The kit includes a 92mm throttle body, colder-operating spark plugs, and port fuel injectors from the Shelby GT500.

The kit also includes a dual-pass intercooler and a special Tomahawk tool for reprogramming the engine’s electronic control unit.

Performance Boost for the F-150 Pickup

The kit is suitable for F-150 pickups from the 2021-2026 model years. For vehicles with the optional Pro Power Onboard system, an additional compatibility component will be required. After installation, the power of the 5.0-liter V8 increases to 700 hp, and torque to 590 lb-ft.

This doesn’t quite reach the 720 hp of the flagship F-150 Raptor R, but it significantly changes the character of the pickup. Ford emphasizes that the Lobo version is the perfect candidate for such an upgrade, as it gives it power that matches its aggressive “street” image.

The kit is compatible with both four-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive versions of the F-150, provided the single-generator configuration is used.

Warranty and Legal Status

Unlike many aftermarket tuning solutions, the Ford kit is engineered to meet rigorous durability standards for 100,000 miles. If installed by a dealer or certified technician, it is covered by a Ford Performance warranty for 3 years or 36,000 miles.

However, there is an important caveat regarding California. The kit is positioned as legal in all 50 states for earlier models, but the official CARB certification for 2026 model year vehicles is still pending. Until the documents are received, owners of 2026 models in California and other CARB-compliant states will have to wait.

Cost and Requirements

The supercharger kit for the F-150 costs $10,250, while for the Mustang it’s slightly more expensive at $10,500. To achieve the stated performance figures, both require fuel with an octane rating of at least 91.

The introduction of such official tuning packages is an interesting move by a major manufacturer. It not only satisfies the demand for extreme power but also legitimizes it, offering customers peace of mind through warranty preservation. This could shift the accessory market, drawing buyers from independent tuning shops to official dealers. This is especially relevant for markets like the USA, where the culture of modifying pickups and muscle cars is highly developed. Such offerings may also extend the life cycle of internal combustion engines in an era where attention is increasingly focused on electric vehicles.
