Ford’s Off-Road Navigation
GPS navigation has radically changed driving, but standard systems are often useless off the asphalt. Ford has solved this problem by partnering with the company onX.
Owners of Ford vehicles from model year 2017 and newer receive a free one-year access to the full suite of onX apps. These applications can be used on a smartphone or through integration with the vehicle’s display.
Key App Features
A key advantage is the ability to download off-road maps in advance, which is critical for travel in remote areas without network coverage.
Offer Terms and New Video Project
To take advantage of the offer, owners need to activate an onX Elite membership via the Ford app or a dedicated website. However, the offer is valid only until December 22, 2028, and after the free year, the subscription automatically renews.
Separately, Ford is launching a new video series titled “Chasing Off-Road Confidence.” In it, influencer Chase Gentry explores various trails across the country behind the wheel of Ford vehicles. The first episode, despite some commercial aspects, contains useful tips for off-road driving.
This move by Ford demonstrates the growing importance of digital solutions for outdoor recreation. The integration of specialized apps directly into the vehicle experience is becoming a new trend, especially for off-roaders and nature enthusiasts. The offer, although time-limited, could become a significant argument when choosing a vehicle for those who value the freedom of movement off-road. The success of such an initiative will largely depend on the quality and relevance of the data in the apps, as well as the convenience of their use in real-world conditions.
