Škoda called it a motorsport version, but acceleration to 100 km/h suggests otherwise

Škoda marks 125 years of motorsport with a special Fabia Motorsport Edition series

Škoda has released a new limited edition of its hatchback, dedicated to 125 years of participation in motorsport. The model is called Fabia Motorsport Edition and is based on the special Fabia 130 version. Designers drew inspiration from the look of the Fabia RS Rally2 rally car.

The exterior changes are restrained but noticeable. The car is painted in Moon White metallic with a contrasting black roof and black accents. Special decals have appeared on the body: the inscription “Škoda” on the front bumper and a “125” badge on the C-pillar.

Design details and equipment

Designers added rally stripes and a small “Škoda Motorsport 125 Years” inscription on the front fenders. The car is equipped with LED headlights, dark 18-inch alloy wheels, and sports suspension that is 15 mm lower than the Fabia Monte Carlo version.

Inside, sports seats and decorative carbon-look inserts are installed. An individually numbered plaque is placed on the dashboard, and the steering wheel has special trim in honor of the anniversary. Special mats and sills with a “rally pattern” are also provided.

Technical specifications and performance

Under the hood is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI engine producing 174 hp (130 kW) and 250 Nm of torque. As in the Fabia 130 version, it works in conjunction with an improved seven-speed DSG transmission. Engineers tuned the transmission for higher shift points for faster acceleration, automatic rev-matching when downshifting in sport mode, and changed braking logic for quicker re-acceleration.

Thanks to this, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds, and the top speed reaches 228 km/h. Although these figures may seem modest for a “motorsport” version, it is worth remembering that this is more of a styling package than a racing one.

Limited edition and equipment

The production run of the new model is limited to just 125 units. The price will likely be higher than that of the Fabia 130, which starts at 699,900 crowns (about 28,768 euros or 33,910 US dollars) in the Czech Republic. Each buyer will receive a special gift set, which includes driving gloves, a fragment from an actual Fabia RS Rally2 rally car, a protective case with the “125” logo, and a certificate signed by members of the Škoda board of directors.

This special series is more of a tribute to the brand’s history and a collector’s item than an attempt to create a “hot” hatchback for public roads. In this way, Škoda emphasizes its rich motorsport heritage, which spans over a century, and offers brand fans a unique way to be part of this history. It is worth noting that a genuine “hot” hatchback, the Fabia RS, exists, but it is not intended for sale to ordinary customers, which makes the Motorsport Edition a compromise but accessible option for enthusiasts.
