Nissan’s new model — an electric city car named Pixo

Nissan confirms new urban EV PIXO

Nissan has officially confirmed that on September 23 it will unveil a new electric city car. It was initially expected to be called Wave, but the model will ultimately be named PIXO.

Small, but with character

The manufacturer is not yet revealing all the details, but hints that the new product will be compact in size and at the same time distinctive in character. Nissan notes that this is an A-segment car that will be produced in Europe for European drivers. It should combine small dimensions with a recognizable design.

“Small in size, but big in character,” is how Nissan describes the upcoming model.

The teaser video with emojis does not show much, but the prototype has already been spotted this month. It confirmed that the PIXO will be a reworked version of the Renault Twingo.

Design: a familiar base with a new face

As part of the update, the city car will receive its own front end. It will have more traditional rectangular headlights, a less bold hood, and a revised front air intake with a grid pattern in the shape of cubes.

Other stylistic changes look more restrained. The PIXO is expected to have a more streamlined rear with more conventional lights, as well as different wheel rims and a few other touches.

Interior and technical specifications

Less is known about the interior, but it will likely have a lot in common with the Twingo. This means that inside there may be a 7-inch digital instrument panel and a 10-inch multimedia system. They will be complemented by minimalist controls and bright accents that should give the car individuality.

Although the exterior of the PIXO will be unique, the powertrain will likely remain familiar. This refers to a 27.5 kWh battery and an electric motor with 80 hp (60 kW / 82 PS) and 175 Nm of torque. With such figures, the city car will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.1 seconds, and the top speed will reach 130 km/h. WLTP range is expected at around 263 km.

The model’s price, according to preliminary data, may be around €19,500, which is approximately $22,610. For a city EV, this is a fairly competitive range, especially considering the size, range, and European production.

What this means for Nissan and the market

For Nissan, the PIXO could be an important step in strengthening its position in the European EV market. While the brand already has the Leaf and Ariya, the compact A-segment remains an area where buyers are especially price-sensitive. The shared base with the Renault Twingo makes it possible to reduce development costs, while its own design should distinguish the model from the French donor.

If the stated price and range are confirmed, the PIXO will be able to compete with other affordable EVs, although it will not claim dynamic records. For the city, 80 hp and 263 km are quite sufficient, and the main question will remain equipment and the actual cost in different countries. The premiere on September 23 should answer most of these questions.
