Mercedes-AMG appears to be working on an extreme version of its electric GT 4-Door. A prototype spotted by spy photographers features a vented hood and a massive rear spoiler. This modification is expected to surpass even the GT 63, which already delivers 1,153 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque.
Exterior changes and aerodynamics
The updated Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is an impressive, albeit controversial in design, vehicle. However, an even more radical version seems to be on the horizon. Spy photographers recently captured a lightly camouflaged prototype that will join the more restrained 55 and 63 versions.
Not much is known about this model yet, but it is likely based on the 63 version and features a more pronounced front splitter. More importantly, the car has a vented hood and a rear wing. The rear spoiler also appears slightly taller than on the standard model.
Powertrain and performance
The exterior changes seem to end there, but there is no doubt that the powertrain has also been upgraded. Exact data is not yet available, but the GT 4-Door is built on the new AMG.EA platform and is equipped with a 106 kWh battery pack.
In the GT 55 version, this battery powers three axial electric motors that produce up to 805 hp (600 kW) and 1,328 lb-ft (1,798 Nm) of torque. This allows the model to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 2.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of up to 186 mph (299 km/h) with the optional AMG Performance package.

The GT 63 also has three motors, but their combined output is 1,153 hp (860 kW) and 1,475 lb-ft (1,998 Nm). Thanks to the extra power, the sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) is reduced to 2.3 seconds, while the top speed remains unchanged.
Interior and expectations
While the performance figures of the prototype remain a mystery, the interior will likely largely carry over from the standard versions. This means we can expect a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display. It would not be surprising if these are complemented by an AMG Performance steering wheel and AMG Performance seats, which are optional for the lower-tier models.

This new prototype indicates that Mercedes-AMG has no intention of resting on its laurels in the electric horsepower race. The emergence of an even more hardcore version of the GT 4-Door, which will likely receive a name like GT 63 S E Performance or even GT Black Series, is a logical step for the brand as it seeks to assert its dominance in the high-performance electric vehicle segment. The vented hood and large rear wing hint at improved thermodynamics and downforce, which are critical for track driving. Given that even the “base” GT 63 accelerates to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds, the new flagship could become one of the fastest production cars in the world, challenging giants like the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire.
