1700-Horsepower Demon That Makes Bugatti Tourbillon Look Over Its Shoulder

Hennessey Turns the Dodge Demon 170 into a True Monster

The production Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 with 1025 hp is already impressive with its 8.91-second quarter-mile time, but now Hennessey is preparing an even more powerful version. The secret lies in even more power – the company’s engineers have created a tuned engine with two turbos that produces 1700 hp.

This figure approaches the power of the new Bugatti Tourbillon (1775 hp), making the Demon 170 one of the fastest cars in the world. To achieve such results, the engine was completely redesigned, increasing its displacement to 7.2 liters and installing a turbo system. On the dyno using E85 fuel, it showed a “conservative” 1700 hp and torque of around 1400 pound-feet.

Potential Impact on Future Stellantis Models

This project attracted the attention of Stellantis management – Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis was present during testing. Interestingly, Ram recently brought back the Hemi engine for its 2026 pickup trucks, and Dodge is exploring the possibility of using it in the new Charger, which was initially developed only for electric drive and a 3.0-liter bi-turbo inline-six engine.

The modified Demon 170 is expected to accelerate to 180 mph (289 km/h) in the quarter mile, which is 0.35 seconds faster than the Rimac Nevera’s record. The first customer cars are already being prepared for the road, confirming Hennessey’s reputation as one of the world’s leading tuners.

This project demonstrates how far one can go in modifying even the most powerful production engines. At the same time, it raises questions about the future of large gasoline engines in a world dominated by electric vehicles and environmental regulations. However, for now, enthusiasts can enjoy extreme projects like this one.
