300 Thousand Forgotten Dodges Await a Meeting with Dealers After Years of Separation Due to Recall

Large-Scale Dodge Vehicle Recall

The Dodge company has announced the recall of nearly 300,000 compact Dart vehicles due to a malfunction in the automatic transmissions. This concerns models manufactured from 2013 to 2016, which are equipped with an automatic transmission. The problem lies in the potential disconnection of the shift cable, which can lead to the loss of the park function and unintended vehicle movement.

Problem Details and Risks

If the transmission cable disconnects, the gear selector may not lock in the “Park” position, even when the driver is sure the car is securely fixed. This creates a serious safety threat, as the vehicle may start moving uncontrollably, especially on slopes.

The transmission cable may fail, leading to the loss of the park function and potential unintended vehicle movement.

Current Status of Problem Resolution

Dodge and its parent company Stellantis have not yet developed a final solution to fix the defect. Drivers are recommended to always use the parking brake, especially when parking on inclined surfaces, and to check that the gear selector is indeed in the “Park” position.

History of Similar Recalls

This is not the first time Dodge has faced such a problem. In 2019, there was already a recall of 320,000 Dart vehicles due to wear of the transmission cable bushings. However, following new incidents, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation in the summer of this year.

Interesting Facts About the Dodge Dart

The Dodge Dart car was discontinued in 2016, but recent sales data showed that dealers continue to sell individual new units of this model. For example, in the third quarter of this year, six new Darts were sold, which had likely remained in warehouses or with dealers for many years.

Transmission problems in Dodge Dart vehicles highlight the importance of regular technical maintenance, even for models that are no longer in production. Many owners of these cars may not have visited service centers for a long time, making this recall even more challenging to implement. The delay in resolving the issue could affect consumer trust in the brand, especially given that similar incidents have occurred before. Furthermore, this underscores the need for careful attention to the safety of older vehicles that are still in operation.
