$5 Million for a Yellow Bird: Attempt to Take Off from a Car Carrier Ends in Failure

An Expensive Sports Car Fell from a Car Carrier in the USA

The delivery of the unique sports car turned into an accident – the car broke loose from the top tier of the car carrier in San Francisco. According to reports, the car partially slipped off a ramp that was at a height of about 2.4 meters.

In a video circulating on social networks, the CTR is seen hanging at an angle, touching the ground only with its rear bumper and exhaust system. The front of the car is pointing towards the sky, with the edge of the ramp pressed against its underbody.

“I was sitting with a friend when he got a call that his client’s Yellowbird had fallen off the trailer,” an eyewitness to the event recounted.

History of the Legendary Model

Ruf produced fewer than 30 such cars based on the Porsche 911 G-series. Today, their value reaches $4-6 million. A feature of the model was its lightweight narrow-body Carrera chassis combined with a powerful 3.4-liter engine producing 463 hp.

The model got its nickname “Yellowbird” from the color of the test car on which Road & Track magazine achieved a speed of 211 mph in 1987. Later, German testers accelerated this model to 213 mph.

This incident is another reminder of the importance of following the rules for transporting expensive collector cars. The loss of such a rare specimen is a real tragedy for car enthusiasts. The Ruf CTR remains one of the most revered models among collectors worldwide.
