Cars found in storage always cause admiration, and this specimen is special. Before us is one of the most famous muscle cars of all time, which after restoration looks almost new. The most amazing thing is that its owner is 96 years old, which inspires one to believe in their own activity in old age.
This is about a second-generation Dodge Charger with characteristic body lines, which became iconic after the film “Bullitt” with Steve McQueen. The car was saved by Larry Kosilla from the Ammo NYC channel, who pulled the car out of storage after a thirty-year hiatus.
When the garage door was opened, the Dodge looked dirty but intact, with no signs of corrosion. However, the engine was not working, and the brakes were seized, so the car had to be towed to a workshop for a full restoration.
In 1968, the Dodge Charger was offered with various engines—from a weak 3.7-liter inline-six to a mighty 7.0-liter Hemi V8. This specimen originally had a 6.3-liter engine with 340 hp, but later received a 7.2-liter unit with three carburetors, which brought its characteristics closer to the Hemi version.
Among other modifications are sport headers and American Racing “Daisy” alloy wheels, popular at the turn of the 1960s-1970s, which give the car a unique look.
Long-term storage saved the body and paint from the influence of harsh winters. After a thorough wash and polish, the car looks excellent. The black leather interior upholstery is also well preserved, and the absence of a center console emphasizes the column shifter for the automatic transmission.
After restoring the appearance, the mechanics replaced the fuel pump, repaired the carburetors, and fixed the stuck valves. After repairing the brake system and installing new discs, the car was ready to meet its elderly but energetic owner. What car would you like to keep until you’re 96?
