German tuning atelier AC Schnitzer has demonstrated its approach to the BMW i5 electric sedan, presenting new images of the car with aerodynamic enhancements. The main elements of the updated look are:
A Civilized Alternative to the M5
While BMW prepares an update for the 5-Series and its electric i5 version, tuning companies are already offering owners the opportunity to make their car stand out. The new project from AC Schnitzer is positioned as a more restrained and civilized alternative to the sharp BMW M5. The company first announced packages for the G60/G61 generation in 2024, but the focus then was on ICE models. Now they have shown how these enhancements look on the fully electric i5, specifically on the top-tier M60 xDrive version.
AC Schnitzer insists that the factory 593 hp is “not enough” for their team. However, they are unlikely to interfere with the electric drive, focusing instead on internal combustion engines, including the upcoming M5.
Tuning Package Details
The styling kit gives the car a more aggressive stance. It starts with a front splitter, which works in tandem with corresponding side skirts and two separate rear spoilers. For the Touring models, a proprietary rear spoiler variant is offered. These parts are designed for i5 models already equipped with the factory M Sport package.
For those wanting even more expressiveness, the tuner offers decorative stripes along the sides. However, the most noticeable update is likely the new alloy wheels. They are available in three designs, several finish options, and diameters from 19 to 21 inches. The example shown features 21-inch AC3 FlowForming wheels with a five-spoke pattern, paired with bright red brake calipers for contrast.
Guidance and Pricing
Suspension modifications include lowering springs, which reduce the ground clearance by 20-25 mm, as well as wheel spacers that increase the track width by 20 mm, giving the i5 a more planted and stable look. Regarding cost, the updates are largely shared with the regular 5 Series. The front splitter costs about 1,290 euros, the side skirts – 840 euros. The roof spoiler adds 490 euros, and a subtle rear lip spoiler – another 540 euros. The wheels are the biggest investment, potentially adding up to 5,390 euros depending on the configuration. Additional parts include wheel spacers for 486 euros and lowering springs for 581 euros.
This project clearly demonstrates how tuning companies are adapting to the electric vehicle era, focusing on aesthetics and chassis tuning as traditional engine modification approaches lose relevance. AC Schnitzer’s offering for the i5 M60, which is already a powerful machine, shows that even for high-performance EVs there remains room for driver-focused personalization aimed at a unique appearance and improved handling dynamics. It also points to the growing market for premium EV accessories, where owners want to stand out without waiting for official facelifts from the manufacturer.
