The unique AGTZ Twin Tail car was created through the joint efforts of Zagato, La Squadra, and Deus Ex Machina
This exclusive car, built as a one-off, can serve as vivid proof that the world of luxury and high design art exists separately. The AGTZ Twin Tail is the result of collaboration between the renowned ateliers Zagato, La Squadra, and Deus Ex Machina. The car pays homage to the legendary Alpine A220 race car, inheriting its key feature — a removable rear section that radically changes the vehicle’s appearance.
Features and Limited Series
The car is based on the Alpine A110. Initially, the Twin Tail project was developed by La Squadra and Zagato, and its distinctive feature became the possibility of transformation: thanks to the removable rear body section, the car can look like a long-tail racing prototype or a regular sports car. Only 19 such cars will be produced worldwide, but this particular model is the only one that the Deus Ex Machina team has contributed to.
Exclusive Design by Deus Ex Machina
For this version, Deus Ex Machina’s creative director Carby Tuckwell worked with partners to create a striking monochrome exterior. The body is executed in black and white tones with large-scale graphic elements, a huge circle with the letter “X” on the doors, contrasting wheels, and subtle red and blue accents near the roofline. The overall impression is not that of a traditional supercar, but rather a race car that accidentally ended up in a contemporary art gallery.
La Squadra founder Jakub Pietrzak notes that the companies wanted to merge surf culture and automotive design, as both industries were revolutionized by the advent of fiberglass and later carbon fiber. These materials opened up possibilities for designers to create shapes and proportions that were impossible just a few decades ago.
Art on Wheels
It should be noted that this car is first and foremost a work of art, not a demonstration of enhanced performance. None of the companies involved in the project mention any updates related to power or dynamics in their official materials. However, the base Alpine A110 is already known for its excellent driving qualities. This unique model simply gives one lucky owner the opportunity to possess a truly individual and artistic creation.
Such projects demonstrate how modern car manufacturing is increasingly intersecting with high design and art, creating objects whose value extends far beyond technical specifications. They become a material embodiment of an idea, cultural references, and aesthetic searches, while retaining functionality.
