Alfa Romeo to cease production of gasoline models Giulia and Stelvio by summer

Alfa Romeo plans to end the production of gasoline models Giulia and Stelvio by summer. Diesel engine versions may remain in production slightly longer than their gasoline counterparts. Both the sedan and SUV will be replaced by electric and hybrid models in the near future. It is reported that Alfa Romeo is preparing to complete the production of all gasoline versions of the current generation Giulia and Stelvio. Although we have known for some time that these models are nearing the end of their life cycle, this is the first time we see a specific date for the cessation of their production.

Information about the impending end of production first appeared on Reddit when a screenshot was published, reportedly showing a memorandum sent to the automaker’s dealer network across Italy. It states that the production of the Giulia Quadrifoglio will cease on March 31, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio on April 30, and the regular Giulia models, namely Sprint, Veloce, and Intensa, on May 31. Interestingly, the memorandum does not mention the diesel versions of Giulia and Stelvio, likely because they may remain a little longer. How much longer is still unknown, but according to Mopar Insiders, their availability will be limited over time. What awaits Alfa Romeo in the future?

Fortunately, Giulia and Stelvio will not be left in the past, as Alfa Romeo is using the STLA Large platform, the same as the Dodge Charger, Jeep Recon, and Jeep Wagoneer S. The new Stelvio will be offered in both hybrid and electric variants, so fans of this SUV can be assured that gasoline models will not be abandoned. As for Giulia, work is underway on a new version, but there are no details yet. It is possible that it will move away from the traditional sedan configuration in favor of something more akin to a crossover – think of a sleek, streamlined silhouette similar to the Peugeot 408. It’s still a “wait and see” situation, but one thing is known: the next generation of Alfa Romeo models will raise the bar for performance with an eco-focus.
