Amazon driver drove across lawn instead of road: incident in the USA
Keeping a perfect lawn in excellent condition is no easy task. So you can imagine the shock of a southern Indiana resident when a surveillance camera captured an Amazon delivery driver using his lawn to access the house, instead of using the driveway.
How it happened
Video of the incident quickly spread on social media. The short clip shows a female driver of a blue Ford Focus calmly driving across the lawn to deliver a package. She then returns to the car, makes a U-turn, and leaves the property, seemingly unaware that she left tire tracks on the grass. Strangely, the property has its own driveway, but the driver did not use it.
Reaction from the owner and the company
The homeowner, Elisha Magill, said she contacted Amazon after the incident. The company offered to repair the damaged lawn. As for the driver, she is already looking for a new job.
In a statement to USA Today, Amazon representative Lee Ann Guillet said: “We hold our delivery partners to high standards, and the actions shown in this video are completely unacceptable. We have reached out to the customer to make things right, and this partner no longer delivers Amazon packages.”
Legal nuances
Individuals delivering packages through Amazon Flex are considered independent contractors, not company employees. Given this, Amazon likely has no legal obligation to repair the lawn, but such actions may provide the company with valuable PR.
“We were completely shocked when we first saw this video,” Magill said. “At first, we were disappointed and couldn’t believe it happened, but after the initial surprise, we started laughing because the situation was so unexpected and bizarre.”
This incident highlights the complexity of the relationship between Amazon and its contractor drivers. Although the company publicly condemns such actions and tries to maintain its reputation, legal responsibility for similar incidents often falls on the contractors themselves. At the same time, Amazon’s swift response to the customer complaint shows that the company values its reputation and is willing to make concessions, even if it is not its direct obligation. The incident also serves as a reminder of the importance of following traffic rules and respecting private property, even while performing work tasks.
