AMG Claims GT 63 Buyers Do Not Consider Porsche as an Alternative

The New Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro and Its Buyers

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro may offer performance similar to models like the Porsche 911 GTS T-Hybrid or the powerful 911 Turbo S. However, according to Mercedes representatives, buyers of their new front-engined flagship do not consider Porsche as an alternative at all when making their choice.

It is clear that the Porsche 911 differs from any other sports car on the market with its rear-engine layout. But, like the GT 63 Pro, it is a refined two-door coupe with a 2+2 cabin configuration and insane performance, especially in the Turbo S configuration. Mercedes also has a similar price category.

During the recent Australian launch of the GT 63 Pro, Mercedes-Benz’s local market media relations manager, Jerry Stamoulis, noted that buyers of the new model are most likely transitioning from other AMG products.

“Honestly, a typical AMG owner will not compare these cars when choosing. Customers for the GT 63 Pro will most likely come from the G63, and now they want a sports car instead of it or in addition to it. This also applies to the E63 AMG.”

AMG vs. Porsche Comparison

In terms of pure performance, the GT 63 Pro certainly has all the credentials to compete with the best Porsche 911 models. Power is provided by a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8, producing 603 hp and 849 Nm of torque. This is a significant increase of 26 hp and 50 Nm compared to the regular, non-Pro version.

Working with this engine is a nine-speed transmission that drives all four wheels. Mercedes-AMG claims the car needs only 3.1 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h), with a top speed of 197 mph (317 km/h).

The AMG’s power figures sit between the Porsche 911 GTS T-Hybrid and the new 911 Turbo S. Thanks to a bi-turbo 3.6-liter flat-six engine, the GTS develops 532 hp and 609 Nm, while the Turbo S raises these figures to 701 hp and 800 Nm.

Interestingly, despite the technical parallels, Mercedes-AMG’s marketing strategy clearly positions the GT 63 Pro within its own ecosystem. The car appeals to the brand’s established audience, which values the very character of AMG—a combination of luxury, everyday usability, and power, not just achieving lap times. This underscores that in the high-performance car market, emotional connection to the brand and existing ownership experience can often be more significant factors than direct technical specifications on paper. Thus, the GT 63 Pro serves not merely as a competitor to the 911, but as the pinnacle for those who have already journeyed through the AMG lineup and seek its most sporting embodiment.
