Audi Nuvolari appeared on the track after celebrating an unexpected premiere

Testing of the Audi Nuvolari supercar at the Nürburgring

Audi has begun open testing of its new Nuvolari supercar. The prototype was recently spotted on the Nürburgring track. The car is expected to appear next year and will have a total power output of 987 horsepower.

The Audi Nuvolari seemingly appeared out of nowhere — there was no teaser campaign or endless stream of spy photos. Instead, the company simply unveiled the car and announced that deliveries will begin in the first half of 2027.

This is a refreshing change of pace, but now Audi is testing its future supercar at the Nürburgring. It features interesting camouflage and a front cover that hides the upper radiator grille and the Audi logo.

More about the model: Audi introduced the new Nuvolari supercar as an extreme successor to the R8, with an engine from Lamborghini.

Given that the manufacturer skipped the concept stage and unveiled a “near-production prototype” earlier this month, no major changes are expected. However, it is worth noting that some components on the car appear to be temporary replacements.

Technical specifications and power

Although it is impossible to see many details, the Nuvolari is equipped with a high-performance plug-in hybrid powertrain. It consists of a mid-mounted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, a 7.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, and three axial electric motors. These are complemented by five driving modes and the quattro all-wheel drive system, which anticipates your needs.

Overall, the car delivers a total power output of 987 hp (736 kW / 1001 PS). This is more than the Lamborghini Temerario and allows the Nuvolari to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of over 350 km/h.

Aerodynamics and braking system

Among other features is an active rear wing with three different positions. It functions as an air brake and can generate downforce of over 400 kg. As for the brakes, the car features a Ceramic Pro ceramic braking system with massive front discs measuring 420 mm in diameter, clamped by ten-piston calipers.

Interior and equipment

The model also features a minimalist cabin with anodized aluminum accents and a massive infotainment system. These are complemented by lightweight sports seats, a button-operated gear selector, and a digital instrument cluster positioned behind a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

It is worth noting that the Nuvolari’s appearance at the Nürburgring indicates an active phase of refining the car for series production. Although the company has already introduced a nearly finished version, such tests are standard practice for tuning the chassis, suspension, and control systems under extreme conditions. This also hints that Audi aims not only to impress with technical specifications but also to deliver a genuine driving experience, which was a hallmark of the previous R8 model. Given the power exceeding 1000 horsepower and the hybrid technology, the Nuvolari becomes a direct competitor to hypercars like the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and McLaren Artura, while offering a unique German approach to engineering and design.
