Key Updates for the 2027 Models
Having recently updated the 2026 A5 and Q5 models for the American market, Audi has applied a similar set of changes to its electric offerings—the A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron. These cars, which will go on sale in the second quarter as 2027 models, have received updated technology and features.
The Return of Physical Control
One of the most noticeable changes is what sits directly in front of the driver. Recent Audi steering wheels have been equipped with ‘piano black’-style haptic buttons that operate via touch or swipe. They are inconvenient to use and probably should have been replaced entirely.
Audi hasn’t abandoned this design completely, but at least limited it in the 2027 models. Some of the most demanding haptic control elements have been replaced with physical scroll wheels. The right one adjusts the volume, while the left one now controls the menu and instrument cluster settings.
Technological Innovations and Packages
As with the updated A5 and Q5, the electric A6 and Q6 models can be equipped with a dashcam via the Premium processing package, while in the Premium Plus trim it comes as standard. The 4K dashcam is mounted near the base of the rearview mirror and can be set to automatically save recordings upon triggering.
Audi has also added a new technology package that includes augmented reality in the head-up display and a separate display for the front passenger. The multimedia system has received several of its own updates. Navigation has been made more intuitive, and smartphone integration is smoother than before.
Updates to the Virtual Cockpit and Voice Control
The virtual cockpit has also been updated with different displays, and now features fewer icons. Regardless of the chosen view mode, separate displays for time and outside temperature will appear in the upper right corner. More importantly, navigation, media, and the driver’s smartphone phone functions can now be displayed directly on the instrument cluster.
For the 2027 A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron models, Audi has also improved the voice control function, so it can now control systems such as adaptive cruise control and the air suspension. The central and passenger displays can now also be linked to controllers, making them even better for in-car gaming.
Improvements in Driving Dynamics
Regarding driving dynamics, Audi has improved the regenerative braking function by adding a one-pedal mode. The S6 Sportback e-tron has also been updated to include a new Dynamic Plus driving mode, which allows for controlled drifting.
Available Versions and Prices
Three versions of the 2027 Audi A6 will be available. The base 375 hp e-tron starts at $66,700, followed by the 456 hp e-tron quattro at $68,700. At the top of the lineup is the 543 hp S6 Sportback e-tron starting at $79,600.
The Q6 e-tron is offered in four versions. The base e-tron quattro SUV and Sportback quattro develop 456 hp each, with prices starting at $64,500 and $68,300 respectively. Above them are the SQ6 e-tron SUV at $73,200 and the SQ6 Sportback at $75,600.
These updates clearly demonstrate Audi’s course of correcting mistakes made in implementing fully touch interfaces. The return of physical controls, even in a limited form, is a direct response to criticism from customers and experts who complained about the impracticality of haptic panels while driving. At the same time, the brand continues to increase technological complexity by integrating new digital services and driving modes, making its electric models competitive not only by the smell of leather but also by the level of interactivity and personalization options. Conventionally speaking, the company is trying to find a balance between a future dominated by touch and classic automotive values where tactile feedback remains undeniable.
