Audi Q3 Sportback Only Got a More Aerodynamic Roof

Audi Introduced the New Q3 Sportback

Following the recent premiere of the third-generation Q3, Audi has launched the new Q3 Sportback model, expanding its lineup of coupe-SUVs alongside the Sportback versions of the larger Q5, Q6 E-tron, and Q8 E-tron models.

Design and Exterior

As expected, the Q3 Sportback shares most body panels with the regular Q3, although the roofline and glazing have been redesigned, resulting in a smooth glass surface at the rear. Additionally, Audi designers removed the roof rails of the standard version for a sportier look.

The full-width rear lights with optional digital OLED graphics and the sporty rear bumper with faux air intakes and a large diffuser are carried over from the regular Q3. According to brand representatives, the coupe-SUV is 29 mm (1.1 inches) shorter compared to its more conservative twin. Overall, both models look sportier and more modern compared to their predecessors.

Interior and Space

Inside, the dashboard is also shared with the Q3, including the curved panel with an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch multimedia system, as well as redesigned levers. As for the rest of the cabin, the lower roofline at the rear has impacted the available space for passengers and luggage.

More specifically, the maximum luggage compartment volume of the Q3 Sportback is 1,298 liters (45.5 cubic feet) with the rear seats folded, which is 97 liters (3.4 cubic feet) less compared to the “standard” Q3. However, Audi did not share the trunk volume with all five seats in place, so it is unknown if it is smaller than the 488 liters (17.2 cubic feet) of the regular version.

Engines and Technologies

The powertrain lineup is shared for both variants of the new Q3 and includes gasoline, diesel, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. The base 1.5-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine produces 148 hp (110 kW / 150 hp) and is combined with 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TFSI engines, with the latter producing up to 262 hp (195 kW / 265 hp). Depending on the variant, power is sent to the front or all four wheels (quattro).

Finally, the plug-in hybrid (e-Hybrid) generates a total of 268 hp (200 kW / 272 hp) and has a battery capacity of 25.7 kWh. The zero-emissions range is practically identical, as the Sportback can travel only 1 km (0.6 miles) less between charges compared to the regular Q3, with a WLTP rating of 118 km (72 miles).

The MQB Evo-based SUVs are available with standard or sport suspension and feature all the latest driver assistance technologies.

Availability and Pricing

Audi did not share information about the debut of the new Q3 in North America, which is expected for the 2026 model year. However, the SUV is already available to order on European markets, with the first deliveries expected in October for the Q3 and in November for the Q3 Sportback.

In Germany, the cheapest Q3 starts from €44,600 ($52,200), while the Q3 Sportback costs from €46,450 ($54,300). The plug-in hybrid versions start from €49,300 ($57,700) and €51,150 ($59,800) respectively.

The new Q3 Sportback model demonstrates how Audi continues to evolve its lineup by combining coupe elegance with SUV practicality. The increased offering of hybrid technologies and the retention of key characteristics make this model attractive to modern buyers looking for style without compromising functionality. It also highlights the growing competition in the compact luxury SUV segment, where every manufacturer is trying to offer something unique.
