Audi RS5 showcases massive exhaust systems and plug-in charging

Audi is preparing to release the next generation of the RS5 sedan and wagon, which will replace the RS4 models and feature a new hybrid powertrain. The high-performance variant boasts a unique front end and distinctive exhaust pipes. Audi unveiled the model last summer, and now they are preparing to launch the top-tier RS5 and RS5 Avant versions. Prototypes were recently spotted during testing at the Nürburgring track. Clad in patterned camouflage, the high-performance models stay true to their predecessors.

While the front end remains largely unchanged, there are noticeable differences, including a slightly redesigned bumper with larger ventilation openings. The lower intake also swaps the honeycomb mesh for a more pronounced “X”-shaped design. The most striking difference is at the rear, where a dual exhaust system with massive exhaust pipes is featured. These are integrated into an aggressive bumper with a small diffuser and vertical elements. We can also see new reflectors with a horizontal layout.

The changes don’t end there, as the model has ventilation openings on the front fenders as well as sporty side skirts. Most intriguingly, there’s a side charging port, hinting at the model’s hybrid powertrain. Audi is keeping details under wraps, but rumors suggest the model could use a version of the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 from the RS4. It produces 444 hp (331 kW / 450 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque, enabling the wagon to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds before reaching an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The hybrid system will provide a significant power boost and allow the model to compete with .

The latter uses a hybrid powertrain consisting of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a rear electric motor, a 6.1 kWh battery, and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. This gives the car a combined output of 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) and 752 lb-ft (1,018 Nm) of torque. In addition to the high-tech powertrain, expect a robust braking system and a sport-tuned suspension. This setup will be paired with a familiar interior featuring an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment system, and an optional 10.9-inch display for the front passenger.
