The Mazda CX-60 Only Looked Like a Show Car Until AutoExe Taught It to Eat Dirt

Japanese Tuning Atelier AutoExe Presents New Off-Road Kit for Mazda CX-60

The Japanese tuning company AutoExe, known for its work on improving the design and dynamics of Mazda vehicles, has presented its new project. This time, the masters decided to add more spirit of adventure and rally character to Mazda’s largest crossover — the CX-60 model. The new kit is named Active XRoss and was presented at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

Exterior Changes and Options for the Off-Roader

The kit radically changes the crossover’s appearance, giving it a more robust and adventure-ready look. The main elements include widened wheel arches with simulated mounting bolts, an aluminum-coated skid plate, a matte black radiator grille, and rear spoilers.

For those who want to bring the exterior even closer to an off-roader, AutoExe offers additional options. Among them are matte black decals for the hood and sides of the car, red mud flaps, protective door handle covers, additional LED lights in the front bumper, and window visors.

Interior and Chassis Updates

The changes in the cabin are more restrained. The main novelty is a sporty multifunctional steering wheel with a flat bottom, upholstered in Nappa leather. It is complemented by carbon fiber inserts, corresponding paddle shifters, and an aluminum gear shift knob.

The demonstration car is equipped with new 18-inch Rays alloy wheels, fitted with Toyo Open Country off-road tires. Furthermore, it features the optional AX lift kit, which adds 25 millimeters (1 inch) of ground clearance.

Increased Body Rigidity and Exhaust System Work

The tuners offer not only cosmetic improvements but also serious technical updates for the chassis. These include a motion control beam, as well as newly developed strut bars, crossbars, and reinforcements to increase the body’s structural rigidity. Under the hood, a carbon fiber air filter and air intake system are installed, and a sport muffler system with four exhaust tips gives the CX-60 a more aggressive sound.

Most of these updates should fit the entire CX-60 lineup, however, the demonstration car is based on the top plug-in hybrid version.

This version combines a 2.5-liter SkyActiv gasoline engine with an electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery pack, delivering a total output of 323 hp and 500 Nm of torque.

Cost of the Tuning Kit and Individual Components

Most parts from AutoExe are already available for order in Japan. The full cost of the kit, excluding non-standard wheels and the lifted suspension, is 1,515,210 yen (approximately $9,500 USD). This amount is added to the base price of the Mazda CX-60, which in Japan starts from 3,267,000 yen (about $20,600).

For buyers who wish to select components separately, AutoExe offers the following prices: widened wheel arches — 132,000 yen, front skid plate — 129,800 yen, radiator grille — 96,800 yen, rear skid plate — 71,500 yen. Red mud flaps cost 41,800 yen, a set of decals — 70,400 yen, side visors — 33,000 yen, and the sport muffler system — 134,200 yen. Each element is sold separately.

The appearance of such a kit for the CX-60 is interesting for several reasons. It shows that even cars initially positioned as urban and family-oriented can receive a completely new, brutal face thanks to professional tuning. AutoExe seems to have caught the trend of growing popularity of off-road and adventure images even among premium crossovers. This project also demonstrates the depth of Japanese car tuning culture, where attention is paid not only to appearance but also to technical improvements of the chassis and body rigidity, making the car not just look ready for off-roading but also behave better in challenging conditions.
