Of the 499 LaFerrari cars built by the Italian brand, most left the factory in predictable shades like red, black, or yellow. Jay Kay had other ideas. When the British musician placed his order, he chose Signal Green – a color much more associated with Lamborghini than anything from Maranello. It remains the only LaFerrari finished this way.
Ownership History and Upcoming Auction
The car remained with Kay until 2019. After that, it passed to another owner in the UK, and then changed hands again in 2023, this time moving to mainland Europe. Earlier this year, it even made a public appearance at the Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena. Now it is preparing for a new chapter at auction.
Estimated Value and Technical Condition
Jay Kay’s former LaFerrari will be sold by RM Sotheby’s at its Monaco auction in April. The car has covered just over 12,000 km since its release, and the original high-voltage battery has been replaced with a new one. The color may not be to every Ferrari collector’s taste, but that’s precisely the point – it sets this car apart from a sea of predictable specifications.
Exterior Appearance and Design
The bright green body contrasts with the glossy black roof, silver five-spoke wheels, and yellow brake calipers. Carbon fiber is used extensively throughout the car, including the front splitter and rear diffuser, adding to the aggressive overall look.
Interior Continuing the Theme
The green theme is not limited to the exterior. The cabin is also dominated by green: the seats combine black and green leather, the dashboard is finished in the same palette, and even the surrounds of the seatbelt buckles are made of bright green leather.
LaFerrari Market Context
Prices for the limited-series LaFerrari have skyrocketed since the car’s debut ten years ago. Low-mileage examples now regularly sell for over $5 million. A black example with just 554 miles was recently sold for $6.88 million. While Jay Kay’s example likely won’t reach that price, it makes one wonder if selling it ahead of time was the right decision.
