Mahindra Automobile for Formula E Looks More Like a Dakar Model Than a Racing Car

Model Updates

Mahindra has introduced an updated version of its BE6 electric SUV, which appeared a year after the model’s debut in India. This new BE6 Formula E Edition version celebrates the brand’s ongoing presence in the FIA Formula E championship, showcasing a number of design changes.

While most automakers release special editions with updates usually limited to paint colors, wheels, or graphics, Mahindra went further by changing the shape of individual body elements so that the BE6 Formula E Edition stands out not just because of stickers.

Design Differences

The BE6 Formula E Edition received a unique front bumper, framed by round LED lights and sharply contoured details. The new underbody protection and extensive use of dark metallic body cladding make it resemble a rally car rather than a model inspired by formula racing.

The rear bumper was also redesigned, complemented by a dual spoiler. Furthermore, the vertical LED tail lights were removed for a cleaner look.

The SUV sits on new 20-inch alloy wheels, although Mahindra also offers the familiar 19-inch set from the standard BE6. Along the profile, the glass roof and pillars are adorned with racing-style graphics that harmoniously contrast with the four available body colors: Everest White, Firestorm Orange, Tango Red, and Stealth Black.

Interior and Equipment

The fully electric SUV also received Formula E emblems on the front fenders and special markings on the windshield. The interior combines black upholstery with Firestorm Orange accents, FIA-branded seatbelts, a Formula E logo plaque on the dashboard, and a special startup animation.

The equipment is plentiful: a standard digital instrument cluster, dual wireless charging, a Harman Kardon audio system, and a suite of ADAS systems.

Performance and Range

The special Formula E version did not receive any performance updates compared to the top BE6 version. The rear-mounted electric motor produces 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) and 380 Nm of torque, accelerating the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and to a top speed of 202 km/h. The 79 kWh battery provides approximately 500 km of real-world range.

The top FE3 trim adds adaptive suspension as standard, making it the most sophisticated version to date.

Price and Availability

Mahindra has set the price for the BE6 Formula E Edition starting from ₹23.69 lakh for the FE2 and ₹24.49 lakh for the fully equipped FE3. Unlike the limited-run Batman Edition, this model will be widely available, but only in India. Orders will open on January 14, with first deliveries expected by February 14, 2026.

For younger fans, Mahindra plans to release a BE6 Formula E Ride-On children’s car, which will appear in April 2026.

Mahindra has been participating in Formula E since the series’ inception in 2014, securing five wins and 29 podiums to date. Although the championship title remains elusive, the team’s stability has secured its place on the starting grid for the sport’s next era, which will last through the GEN4 generation starting from the 2026–2027 season.

This special edition launch demonstrates how automakers use racing series to promote their road models. For Mahindra, it is also an opportunity to highlight its expertise in electric vehicle development, which is becoming particularly relevant in the context of growing competition in the electric vehicle market. The limited sales geography of this version may indicate market testing before a potential global expansion.
