Rivian R2 Launch Package: Details for first buyers
When Rivian introduced the production version of the R2 last month, the company briefly mentioned the Launch Package. Now that production has already begun, the automaker has returned to this topic and provided more details.
For a “limited time,” the Launch Package comes standard with the R2 Performance and effectively rewards early owners for their trust. As a way to say thank you, Rivian is adding several additional features for free.
What is included in the Launch Package?
Most of the updates are relatively minor, but buyers will receive a special key fob that resembles a carabiner and has a green anodized finish. It seems to contrast with the gold accent on the lower half.
Customers will also receive a standard towing package, which is usually an option for the R2 Performance. It allows the electric crossover to tow up to 4,400 lbs (1,996 kg), significantly more than the Jeep Recon’s rating of 3,300 lbs (1,497 kg).
Most valuable benefit
One of the biggest updates is a lifetime subscription to Autonomy+. It provides universal hands-free control on over 3.5 million miles (5.6 million km) of roads in the United States and Canada.
Autonomy+ typically costs $49.99 per month or $2,500 as a one-time purchase. Thus, its free inclusion in the Launch Package is a fairly significant advantage.
Last but not least, customers can order their R2 in the color Launch Green. This shade debuted on the Launch Edition models of the R1 and will be a paid upgrade. Rivian has not announced how much it will cost but noted that the model will also be available in Esker Silver, Catalina Cove, Half Moon Grey, Glacier White, Midnight, and Forest Green.
R2 Performance Technical Specifications
As a reminder, the R2 Performance starts at $57,990 and is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 656 hp (489 kW / 665 PS) and 609 lb-ft (825 Nm) of torque. This allows the crossover to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and travel up to 330 miles (531 km) on a single charge.
Other features include matrix LED headlights, integrated tow hooks, and a rear liftgate with a drop-down window. These are complemented by Compass Yellow accents and 21-inch wheels.
The interior is available in two colors: Black Crater and Coastal Cloud. Both feature Birch wood trim and “soft textile accents.” These are joined by 12-way power front seats with heating and ventilation, as well as heated rear seats and steering wheel. Buyers will also find a premium nine-speaker audio system and a flashlight integrated into the driver’s door.
Thus, the Launch Package from Rivian is a thoughtful way to incentivize early buyers, offering them not only exclusive accessories but also substantial savings on features that usually cost a considerable amount of money. The lifetime subscription to Autonomy+, valued at $2,500, makes this offer particularly attractive for those who plan to actively use the autonomous driving system.
