Cars & Bids Auto Auction Expands Its Range by Adding Retro Cars Up to 1981 Model Year

In recent years, this online auction has become one of the most popular among car enthusiasts; however, unlike similar platforms, it specialized exclusively in cars from the 1981 model year and newer. Now the situation has changed – the resource has started accepting retro cars for sale, expanding the choice for collectors.

The restriction on cars up to 1981 existed due to identification specifics. After this year, all vehicles received standardized 17-character VIN codes, which significantly simplifies history checks and obtaining Carfax reports.

Although such a policy simplified operations at the initial stage, it limited access to a significant segment of the retro car market. These changes will contribute to increased competition among auction platforms, which is beneficial for both buyers and sellers.

The first lots in the new category were three collector cars. The first is a Chevrolet Corvette with a full restoration and modernization, equipped with a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine, a 5-speed manual transmission, a Wilwood braking system, and Vansteel shock absorbers.

The second lot is a Mercury Cougar in a bright blue paint job with the original 5.8-liter Cleveland V8 engine producing 300 hp. The car has a 3-speed automatic transmission and an odometer reading of 96,800 miles (~155,700 km), indicating careful maintenance over 55 years of operation.

The third exhibit is a restored Ford Bronco, also in blue, with a new Edelbrock intake manifold, a 3.5-inch lift suspension, a safety roll cage, and 15-inch Mickey Thompson wheels with 33-inch diameter BFGoodrich tires.
