Gasoline Porsche Cayenne is not going to give way to an electric vehicle

Updated Porsche Cayenne spotted during winter tests

An updated version of the Porsche Cayenne with an internal combustion engine will hit the market very soon. This facelift will not completely copy the design of the new electric Cayenne, but some minor changes will help the model look more modern.

Exterior changes: details that are hard to notice

This is not the first time we have seen the updated Cayenne up close, but it is the first time the prototype has almost no camouflage. The car only has a little tape left on the headlights and a strip on part of the rear bumper — the rest of the body is completely exposed.

If you are not a hardcore Porsche fan, the changes may be almost imperceptible. The most obvious change up front is the installation of dual LED daytime running lights on each side instead of single strips. Additionally, the air intakes have become slightly different and have received an additional horizontal bar. Other Cayenne versions, including the Turbo E-Hybrid, have previously shown vertical DRLs and new active cooling shutters in front of the air intakes.

This prototype is believed to be the GTS version. Like every other updated Cayenne with an ICE, it will receive redesigned headlights, likely with a changed light signature.

Rear end and interior

If you walk around the car, the changes at the rear become even less noticeable. Nevertheless, changes to the Porsche lettering between the taillights are possible, as evidenced by the fact that it was hidden from view. The four exhaust tailpipes look similar to the previous model, as does the small diffuser, although changes to the outer edges of the bumper indicate minor refinements.

Our spy photographers have not yet been able to obtain any interior shots of the new Cayenne, although it is not excluded that it could borrow some components from the fully electric version. Whether this will include a curved central touchscreen is not yet known, as the ICE models and electric vehicles use different platforms.

Powertrains: V8 and hybrids

As for power, the updated Cayenne GTS will most likely retain the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that Porsche introduced a few years ago for the 2025 model year. Lower-tier models are rumored to receive various V6 engines, some of which will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid system.

The title of the most powerful Cayenne will likely be retained by the updated Turbo E-Hybrid. The current model produces 729 hp and 950 Nm of torque thanks to a twin-turbocharged V8 engine and electric assistance. The new model is expected to have similar or even higher figures.

Thus, Porsche continues to keep its internal combustion engine crossover relevant, despite the arrival of the electric version. The updates, though not radical, are aimed at refreshing the exterior appearance and, possibly, improving efficiency. The retention of powerful V8 engines, especially in the GTS and Turbo E-Hybrid versions, indicates that the company is in no rush to completely abandon traditional powertrains, offering buyers a choice between classic and electrification. This allows it to meet the needs of different markets and customers who are not ready to switch to electric vehicles but want a modern and technologically advanced car.
