BMW 5-Series dominates the European market

BMW 5-Series sales grow in Europe

Sales of the BMW 5-Series in Europe increased significantly during the first four months of 2025, reaching 20,402 vehicles. This is 56% higher than the same period last year. The model has become the leader among premium cars, surpassing competitors from Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and other brands.

The Mercedes E-Class took second place with 15,811 units sold (+19%), while the Audi A6/S6 rounded out the top three with 13,774 units (+10%). Electric vehicles also showed strong results: the BMW i5 sold 8,843 units (+55%), and the Audi A6 e-tron sold 7,460. However, the Mercedes EQE, on the contrary, lost popularity, with sales dropping by 22%.

Popularity of station wagons and different engine types

One of the reasons for the sales growth is the variety of powertrains: the cars are offered with internal combustion engines, hybrids, and electric motors. Diesel versions accounted for 30% of sales, hybrids for 30%, electric cars for 27%, and gasoline models for only 11%.

There is also high demand for station wagons. In Germany, about 60% of buyers choose this body type. For example, 61% of BMW i5 sales are Touring models, while for the Audi A6, this figure reaches 86%. In the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the distribution between sedans and station wagons is approximately 50/50.

The least popular models in this segment were the Maserati Ghibli (51 units sold) and the Lexus ES (1,397 units). An interesting trend: despite the overall market growth, some models, such as the EQE or Lexus ES, showed a significant drop in sales. This may indicate a shift in buyer preferences or insufficient competitiveness of these cars in the current year.
