The BMW i7 with the M package served as the foundation for a unique art project in Korea. Experimental artist Lee Kun-Yong created a special wrap for this large electric vehicle. The model will be exhibited in Seoul alongside 18 miniature BMW art cars.
Design and Collaboration with the Artist
The current 7 Series, known internally as the G70, is one of the most discussed BMW designs in recent years. While enthusiasts await the Neue Klasse update in 2026, this model received a different kind of attention in Korea, where it was transformed into an art car.
This unique piece was created in collaboration with Lee Kun-Yong, considered one of Korea’s most influential avant-garde artists. Known for his performances where he uses his own body as a medium, Kun-Yong often transforms movement into stunning abstractions, most famously in his Bodyscape series.
The fully electric BMW i7 with the M package became the mobile canvas for the 83-year-old artist. He designed a special wrap on a bright red base, which remains visible on the front and rear fenders, side skirts, roof pillars, and rear deck.
Design Details
The rest of the vehicle features drawings of faces, hearts, leaves, and abstract shapes that cover the doors, bumpers, lower part of the rear doors, and hood. Each side of the large executive sedan is unique, creating an asymmetrical design.
The artist’s goal was to reflect the precision and responsiveness inherent in the dialogue between the driver and the car, drawing parallels to his own artistic practice.
Kun-Yong noted that he views art as a bridge between different objects, different people, and even different perspectives, and hopes that the collaboration will create new points of connection between art and technology.
Exhibition in Seoul
The colorful i7 will be exhibited at the BMW Lounge in Seoul, Korea, from September 3rd to 6th, alongside a collection of 18 miniature art cars. Additionally, Lee Kun-Yong will create a new canvas as part of a live show on September 4th, inspired by his work on the car.
This year, the Bavarian automaker is celebrating the 50th anniversary of BMW Art Cars with a global exhibition program and the 30th anniversary of BMW Korea. For this reason, it is organizing an art fair taking place in Seoul’s Gangnam district, including 120 galleries from 30 countries. Finally, local artist Crush, known for creating a blend of pop, R&B, and hip-hop music, will perform at the latest edition of Frieze Music in Seoul on September 5th.
This project highlights how technology and art can interact, creating new forms of expression. BMW continues to explore the boundaries of design, transforming production models into unique works of art that foster cultural exchange and innovation. Such initiatives not only enrich the automotive industry but also inspire new creative achievements in the future.
