BMW is Preparing Something New for Its GT3 Race Car

New Teaser from BMW M Motorsport

BMW knows how to ignite the interest of its fans, and this time the company has published a darkened teaser image of a new racing model. The photo, published by BMW M Motorsport on social media, makes it clear that this car is not intended for the brand’s regular road car buyers.

Details and Assumptions

The yellowish LED daytime running lights and massive “kidney grille” radiators indicate that the car is based on the current generation M4. It is likely an update to the M4 GT3 Evo model, which debuted in mid-2024. Since this race car is still quite new, it has led to speculation that BMW may have simply introduced a new livery for the 2026 racing season.

The Most Interesting Detail

Perhaps the most interesting element of the shown car is the radiator grille. Unlike the existing M4-based racing models, the outer edges of both grilles are illuminated in yellow, reminiscent of the glowing grille design on several BMW road models. After increasing the brightness of the teaser in a graphics editor, it can be seen that the grille has the same horizontal elements as the current M4 GT3 Evo, confirming the idea of a minor update to this particular model.

Could It Be Something Else?

However, this has not stopped some experts from suggesting that BMW might be preparing something even more special. In April of last year, BMW unveiled the unique M3 Touring GT3 Evo, which was initially conceived as an April Fools’ joke but was actually realized by car designer Simon von Broye.

Since its launch, the M3 Touring has become one of the most coveted of all current M-series cars, combining exceptional performance with practicality and an attractive wagon body. While it would be great to see it as a specialized race car, this seems unlikely, as BMW already has a ready-made platform in the form of the M4 GT3 Evo.

The publication of such a teaser usually precedes an official premiere, and it can be expected that BMW will reveal more details soon. The emphasis on light graphics, especially on the grille, may indicate a general brand trend towards adding brighter and more technological design elements even to its racing machines, blurring the lines between road and track technologies. The success of the M4 GT3 on racetracks around the world makes any update to it a significant event in motorsport.
