BMW iM3 Possibly Shows Its Appearance for the First Time

New Images of a Possible Electric BMW M3 Surface Online

Just a few days ago, BMW unveiled the all-new electric i3, which is not the successor to the original compact hatchback but an electric version of the popular 3-Series sedan. Plans for a high-performance M version have been known for a long time, and now two photos have appeared online that may show the future model, which will be named i3M or iM3.

The source of these images is unknown; they have been circulated on forums and social media. It is important to note that their authenticity has not yet been confirmed. It is not even clear whether they show a full-fledged electric M3 or, perhaps, a model with an M Sport package.

In the photographs, the car looks significantly different from the standard i3. The headlights appear slightly darker, and a new bumper with a characteristic diamond-shaped element in the center has been installed.

The lower part of the bumper is also unique and contains two large darkened air intakes. On either side of them are two square fog lights each, which take the place of the narrow air curtains of the base model. Such a design will undoubtedly provoke controversial opinions.

Design Details and Community Doubts

Among other noticeable elements, one can highlight the black ventilation grille in the center of the hood and the muscular wheel arches. However, some forum users noted that these arches do not look significantly wider than those of the regular i3, which led to speculation that the photo might not be of a full-fledged M3.

Certain doubts are also raised by the absence of the characteristic BMW M sports side mirrors, which are not visible in the shots.

Technical Specifications of the Future Newcomer

Despite the uncertainty with the photos, some key details about the electric M3 have already been confirmed by the manufacturer. First and foremost, BMW stated that the car will receive a 100 kWh battery pack with the latest cylindrical cells.

The electric M3 is also expected to use a four-motor setup, where each motor will drive an individual wheel through its own gearbox. Such a configuration should provide extremely precise torque vectoring control. BMW is also developing a rear-wheel-drive mode that completely disconnects the front axle. Combined with simulated gear shifts and a unique sound accompaniment, this could make the car one of the most exciting electric vehicles to drive.

It is important to note that, in parallel with the electric version, a new M3 model with an internal combustion engine is also being developed, so the M3 name will not fully transition to electric propulsion.

The appearance of such photos always activates discussions among brand enthusiasts, especially when it comes to such an iconic model as the M3. The transition to an electric platform for high-performance cars is a complex task for manufacturers who strive to preserve the character and emotions inherent in their gasoline predecessors. Technical solutions such as individual wheel motors and software simulations are becoming key tools in this process. The success of models like the iM3 will depend not only on pure technical specifications but also on how successfully they can convey that unique driving experience for which M cars are loved.
