BMW Z4 may remain on the market longer than expected
Within the next 10 years, sports cars with internal combustion engines may completely disappear, giving way to electric cars or hybrids. Therefore, it is important to appreciate the models that are still remaining on the market. According to new data, the BMW Z4 may last longer than previously anticipated.
Officially, BMW does not comment on the Z4 production timeline, but it was previously expected that the model would be discontinued in October of this year. Now, information has emerged that production will be extended until May 2026—but likely only for the M40i version, which will be supplied to the US.
Demand for the Z4 in the first quarter of 2024 increased by 4.2%, partly due to the introduction of a manual transmission for the M40i in America.
The model may remain on the US market longer than in Europe due to less stringent environmental regulations. Alongside the Z4, the Toyota Supra, which is assembled at the same plant in Austria, will also continue to be produced until May 2026.
The Future of Sports Cars
Currently, BMW does not plan a successor for the Z4, while Toyota has already confirmed the development of a new generation Supra. However, it is unknown what type of powertrain this model will receive. For now, both cars continue to delight fans of classic driving, but their days may be numbered due to the global transition to electric vehicles.
Recent years have shown that even in a rapidly electrifying world, there is still a place and demand for cars with a fiery character. Drivers still appreciate the driving sensations that only traditional sports models can offer. Therefore, the extension of Z4 production is good news for enthusiasts.
